utilising the muscles above, below and surrounding the torso, inward pressure is produced synergistically; thereby turning the torso into one solid unit, like a stone pillar

how to achieve functional IAP

  1. stand straight with your feet hip-width apart

  2. stiffen up the side and front of you abdomen *if you can't do this, try bearing down (like trying to pass gas)

  3. holding the stiffness, breath in and out without letting go of the stiffness

  4. practice moving, breathing and bending at the hip while maintaining constant IAP
